The global market for telecommunications is expanding rapidly. The growing competition is calling for companies to formulate innovative solutions and continuously study customer behaviour and buying patterns to adapt to changing customer needs. To keep up with this dynamic marketplace, DNA Ltd (DNA), a leading Finnish telecommunications company, recently initiated a major business transformation program to unify processes and standardize its IT landscape.
Historically, the primary focus for BSS platforms has been the commercial side of delivering services, whereas the focus for OSS platforms has been on the technical control of services.
Telecommunication networks are today an inseparable part of social interaction and critical national infrastructure. Protecting these networks from malicious attacks, that could lead to unavailability or loss of integrity and confidentiality of network services, is thus an important aspect that cannot be ignored. An effective and robust security programme should be implemented to protect telecommunication networks from such attacks.
Bern Elliot, VP Research, Gartner and Keith Bromley, Marketing Manager, NEC go head-to-head to discuss the business case behind Unified Business Communications
Managing risk is a constant balancing act for successful businesses. Business decisions are often constrained by cash flow, credit availability and amount of risk so trade-offs must be made. IT risk is just one piece of information that enters into the decision process. IT needs to be able to clearly articulate risk-related information to the business so more informed decisions can be made. In many cases this work will involve the use of capacity management processes that perform sensitivity analyses on IT services and systems.
